Food Allergies & Sensitivities

By Naturopath Kim Minos.

So many people have low level food sensitivities which manifest as allergy type symptoms. Allergies and sensitivities are similar in effect although they come from different parts of the immune system. If you are having reflux, bloating, constipation or indigestion, chances are you have food allergies.

This can then affect how we feel and our energy levels. 80% of our immune system sits on the lining of our gut. If we are eating food we are allergic to, our immune system becomes weakened fighting the food we eat, hence the bloating and reflux, and we often have less of our immune system to fight virus and bacteria when they are around.

Eczema, although presents on the surface of the skin is in most cases a problem with digestion which causes the immune system to then react on the skin. Stress can make this worse as stress responses affect the immune system at the lining of the gut.  Similarly allergies can cause ongoing post nasal drip, glue ear, nasal catarrh, asthma, headaches, arthritis, fatigue, that sense of having a foggy brain and never feeling like you are completely well.

When the allergies are identified and a repair process for the gut and immune system is undertaken many of these issues resolve and vitality and health can be restored.
