Find Your Heart, Find Your Purpose

by Jenny Parker.

“What’s my purpose?” is a commonly asked question both in my clinic when I’m working with clients and also with students who are committed to their evolutionary growth.  We’re all searching to find contentment in our lives, even if we have lost our way and the searching expresses itself with self-destructive behaviour.  Deep down, in our heart of hearts, we can feel that something is missing and know that there is so much more to life than just working to pay bills.

We are each born with a purpose and it’s our mission to find it and live out of this higher calling and, whether we like it or not, we will all fulfil this purpose.  To quote Michael King, it’s just a longer or a shorter path.  We can choose to either resist our purpose and go kicking, screaming (and inevitably suffering), or proactively take the shorter path, joyfully engaging in life with a singing heart.

When we surrender and, as Sting so eloquently expressed it, allow the universe to suck us into place, life can take on a whole new meaning. From my experience, both personally and professionally, it doesn’t get much better than that.  It’s such a wonderful feeling, when we are on track with our purpose, when we have landed on the sweet spot.  Just like a piece in a jigsaw puzzle, everyone has their role to play in the grand enactment that we call life.  It doesn’t matter whether it is to be the best street sweeper or the president/prime minister of the country we choose to live in, we feel an inner joy and serenity that cannot be found in any other way.

The big mistake many make, is to go on a hunting expedition outside themselves for their purpose, however we already have our purpose albeit that we sometimes hide from it, and it is accessed through our heart.  Like a diamond (our heart) with mud on it, to quote a very popular new age term, we need to clear the mud off the diamond so that our authentic expression can shine through.  The mud on the diamond that is made up of all of our issues, fears, attachments and sabotage patterning, are the building materials that we use to erect a fortress around our heart, which effectively blocks us from our calling in life.  When we apply ourselves to clearing our way through to the beauty within, clarity and heart purity can emerge once more and then step by step our purpose will be revealed to us, in divine timing and order.

This process generally isn’t an overnight sensation or something that will happen in a weekend workshop, although workshops can certainly assist in the process of unfoldment.  It requires a regular rhythm of daily application on an ongoing basis, designed to clear from and protect the heart from that which shut it down in the first place and assist the delicate petals of our heart to open up and shine their light.

A question you might like to ask yourself on a daily basis in your meditation is, “What’s the next step to my highest calling?”  Then all you have to do is listen to the still quiet voice of your heart and follow its lead.  Life coaching sessions and ongoing mentoring can assist you to navigate your way through the twists and turns in your inner landscape so that you may move past the obstacles and clear a path to where your heart sings with the joy of life!
